Venice is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities of the world, because of its urban peculiarity and for its artistic assets.
A part of this city, together with the Venetian Lagoon, is listed as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO).
The historic center of Venice starts in the middle of the Venetian Lagoon on a total of 118 small islands, that are divided by navigable canals and are connected between them by bridges only of pedestrian use.
The total extension of the historic center into the Venice municipality, excluding the interior bodies of water and the major islands, is equal to 797.96 hectares, reason of why this is one of the biggest historic centres in Italy and Europe.
The historic part of this city is traditionally divided in six parts: Dorsoduro, Santa Croce, San Polo, San Marco, Cannaregio and Castello.
The monuments of the Venice municipality are almost all located into the historic centre and into the lagoon's islands.
The most famous place of this city is Piazza San Marco, here there is also a bell tower (Campanile di San Marco).
